Hugo Boss!

Last Saturday Ruth and I handed out flowers for Hugo Boss at the first ever, Shop W Style Event, hosted by W Magazine. Before the event started we met a number of fashion bloggers and celebrity stylists, including Sarah Gore Reeves. She is one tall, well-dressed lady.

We had a table right inside the shop door and spent the day making shoppers happy by tying little spring bouquets on their bags.

Spring bulbs.

It finally feels like spring is here to stay in Brooklyn. And to celebrate it's arrival I planted this mini garden using tulips, hyacinth and crocus. The planter looks super on a table, and it is a great way to bring the first bit of spring indoors.

Cotton Candy.

A new fabric wedding set is finally complete! Yvonne from the Kimera boutique once again gave us her beautiful fabric scraps to play with. We came up with a summery bouquet of dahlias and roses. The mix of soft and bold colors is perfect for the season. Those readers who are local can go see them on display in her boutique on Atlantic Avenue. She also has a gorgeous line of summer wedding dresses for sale.
Of course.... I couldn't resist a trip to Tinsel Trading for those finishing touches like the multicolored stamens, a neutral gold antique ribbon and the grosgrain striped ribbon for the corsage and buttonhole. Tinsel Trading is my own personal heaven (maybe with a beach directly outside).

Vintage.

I found these tiny vases in the vintage bins at Fishs Eddy. They have a nice selection of vintage items, but these were some of my favorites. They are perfect for tiny blooms, or even a large mum.

St. Kilda

It's official. I'm engaged! A little over a month ago, my boyfriend of 4 years surprised me on my birthday with "the question". We set a date (June 25) and since then I have been planning like crazy! My flower work overlaps with my own wedding planning, so I thought I would share some of what I've learned and experienced in my own wedding planning with you here in blog land.

One of my favorite "wedding tasks" has been picking out my engagement ring. I don't wear a lot of jewelry and I'm not a big diamond sort of gal, so I was a bit uncertain about what I wanted in a ring. I did know that I wanted something very simple. After a day of shopping in Brooklyn, we found the perfect ring at a local jewelry shop called St. Kilda.

Above are some of my favorites from St. Kilda's website. But, if you live in NYC you should really stop by their shop and check out all the amazing jewelry they have there.

The Layered Look.

We created these arrangements for the Ticonderoga Ball last week, using river rocks, moss and two varieties of daffodils. We had to come up with a concept that had high impact on a budget.

We chose these seasonal blooms and paired them with an interesting vase. I love the contrast between the elegant urn and the rougher materials within it. We also arranged the daffodils to appear like they were still "growing".

The annual Ball is a fundraiser for Fort Ticonderoga, which is now a museum. I learned that the Fort has a fascinating and prominent place in American and New York history, and was built in the 1750's. Read more about it here.

The event was held at The Union League Club, which is beautiful in that Age Of Innocence kind of way. We enjoyed working there and the bonus history lesson as well!

Braids and basket weaves

We arranged these 2 pieces for Amanne's table at Sunday's Brooklyn Bride event at BAM. We were inspired by Amanne's West African jewelry and for each piece we used grass to create a unique vase treatment. One was bear grass braided and secured on each each end, the other was grass that we wove together like a basket.

The event was a success and I had a great time, meeting tons of brides-to-be and other talented wedding vendors.

A few images from Valentine's Day that we didn't share with you'all yet. The top picture is of the beautiful card that Ruth made to go out with each delivery.

Ethereal Girl.

New Bouquet in shades of white and champagne! Yvonne, who owns Kimera Design offered us her beautiful silks and organza that were to small for her use. We transformed them from scraps to scrumptious. To keep the look modern, the flowers were made to evoke the shapes of roses and poppies, without trying to be too literal or "fake" looking. My favorite parts are the little details like floral stamens and white velvet leaves. Stop by the Kimera boutique for a closer look. This one will be on sale there.

More details for a fabric wedding: a wrist corsage that ties on. Made with a combination of Yvonne's fabric and grosgrain ribbons.

A fabric boutonniere for the Groom completes the look. This one matches the bouquet in color but has a sharp, crisp look to keep it masculine.

We still have more work to do. Look for a vibrant pink and orange set coming soon!
